Continental Crustal Growth Processes Recorded in the Gangdese Batholith, Southern Tibet

چکیده

The continental crust in the overriding plate of India-Asia collision zone southern Tibet is characterized by an overthickened layer felsic composition with underlying granulite-eclogite layer. A large data set indicates that this experienced magmatism from 245 to 10 Ma, as recorded Gangdese Batholith. Magmatism was punctuated flare-ups at 185−170, 90−75, and 55−45 Ma caused a combination external internal factors. growth starts period dominated fractional crystallization formation voluminous (ultra)mafic arc cumulates lower during subduction, followed their melting late-subduction collision, due changes convergence rate. Topography associated with crustal flow in continental collisions, with application to Tibet

S U M M A R Y Collision between an undeformable indenter and a viscous region generates isostatically compensated topography by solid-state flow. We model this process numerically, using a finite element scheme. The slope, amplitude and symmetry of the topographic signal depend on the indenter size and the Argand number of the viscous region, a dimensionless ratio of gravitational body forces t...

Constraining Crustal Anisotropy by Receiver Functions at the Deep Continental Drilling Site KTB in Southern Germany

As one of the rare observational tools for studying deformation and stress within the Earth, seismic anisotropy has been one of the focuses of geophysical studies over the last decade. In order to unravel the anisotropic properties of the crust, the teleseismic receiver functions (RF) methodology has started to be widely applied recently. Such effects of anisotropy on RF were illustrated in the...

Crustal and mantle velocity models of southern Tibet from finite frequency tomography

[1] Using traveltimes of teleseismic body waves recorded by several temporary local seismic arrays, we carried out finite‐frequency tomographic inversions to image the three‐ dimensional velocity structure beneath southern Tibet to examine the roles of the upper mantle in the formation of the Tibetan Plateau. The results reveal a region of relatively highP and S wave velocity anomalies extendin...

Mid-Cretaceous carbon cycle perturbations and Oceanic Anoxic Events recorded in southern Tibet

The organic carbon isotope (δ13Corg) curve for ~1.7-km-thick mid-Cretaceous strata of the Chaqiela section in Gamba area, southern Tibet is presented in this study. C-isotopic chemostratigraphic correlation combined with biostratigraphic constraints show that the Chaqiela section spans early Aptian through early Campanian period, and that almost all of the carbon cycle perturbations and Oceanic...

Raising tibet.

Thermochronologic, sedimentologic, oceanographic, and paleoclimatic studies suggest that rapid uplift and unroofing of southern Tibet began about 20 million years ago and that the present elevation of much of the Tibetan plateau was attained by about 8 million years ago. Hypotheses advanced to explain the tectonic evolution of the India-Asia collision, which began about 40 to 50 million years a...
